چکیده
The health of an animal is always at risk from a variety of infections. Infections in animals, whether clinically manifest or subclinical may, when the animals are used in biomedical research, produce effects that change the outcome of the experiments undertaken. Depending upon the specific infection a variety of biological parameters may be affected such as behaviour, growth rate, relative organ weights, immune response, tumour development etc. Subclinical infections can also lead to contamination of

FELASA recommendations for the health monitoring of mouse, rat, hamster, guinea pig and rabbit colonies in breeding and experimental units FELASA working group on revision of guidelines for health monitoring of rodents and rabbits: M Mähler (Convenor),
The microbiological quality of experimental animals can critically influence animal welfare and the validity and reproducibility of research data. It is therefore important for breeding and experimental facilities to establish a laboratory animal health monitoring (HM) programme as an integrated part of any quality assurance system. FELASA has published recommendations for the HM of rodent and ...

Biomedical research has a need to use nonhuman primates in cases where no other species offer the specific scientific information required or the necessary predictability of results for the development of medicaments and vaccines. Biomedical research would prefer purpose-bred animals of known history, with an amount of background information necessary for the interpretation of findings from ani...
متن کاملRecommendations for the health monitoring of rodent and rabbit colonies in breeding and experimental units.
These recommendations are primarily intended to standardize health monitoring programmes and reporting. In this way they may also help to standardize the microbiological quality of animals. However, it is not a requirement of these recommendations that animals tested are free from all of the microorganisms listed. Health monitoring is a complex issue. Therefore, it is recommended that a person ...

Outside Europe there are reference publications, which are internationally recognized, such as The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, which deal with training, qualifications and veterinary and operational responsibilities in an animal facility (NRC 1996).These same topics are also essentially those that form the basis of the European guidelines for Categories A-D, which FELASAha...

The future laboratory animal technician in Europe will be provided with three different levels of education. All candidates have to start with an introductory course to reach level A0. At this level (A0) they will be able to assist in the laboratory animal facility by undertaking limited specific duties under supervision. Most A0 assistants will continue their education and training for at leas...
